CPR/AED and First Aid

CPR

The First Aid course provides a systematic approach to handling life-threatening breathing and heart problems. Participants will learn the Emergency Action Steps, as well as how to help conscious and unconscious choking victims, heart attack victims, and cardiac arrest victims. Infant CPR covers victims from birth through 12 months; child CPR covers 1 year through age 7; and adult CPR covers 8 years and older.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

An AED is a life-saving device that may re-establish an effective heartbeat by delivering a shock to a malfunctioning heart. For every minute that defibrillation (shocking a heart into a normal rhythm) is delayed, the victim's chance of survival is reduced by 10%, so the lay responder who can provide care with CPR and an AED before professional help arrives can be a vital link in the victim's chain of survival. Participants will learn when and how to operate this simple machine on adults and children. Certification in CPR is a prerequisite. is two hours, or approximately one hour when combined with a CPR course.
