A 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti on January 12th

Below is information re: American Red Cross disaster response efforts:

• To Reach Loved Ones In Haiti: People in our area trying to reach loved ones in Haiti are being directed to call the U.S. State Department at 1.888.407.4747
• The International Red Cross is working in Haiti to reconnect separated families within that country. Log on to www.icrc.org/familylinks.
• Volunteering in Haiti: The American Red Cross is unable to send spontaneous, untrained volunteers to Haiti due to the complexity of the disaster response. However, local volunteers are always needed, and you can begin your training on the local level and advance to National disaster volunteerism and possibly International volunteerism. Register here as a local Red Cross volunteer.
• In-Kind Donations: If you are an individual or community group or school who would like to make a product or in-kind donation such as clothing, hygiene products, medicine, food or water, please understand that, though your generosity is sincerely appreciated, the American Red Cross cannot accept this type of donation. The cost of processing and transporting these types of donations internationally is prohibitive. Instead, the Red Cross appreciates a financial donation to assist the victims of the Haiti Earthquake.

Financial Donations to the International Relief Fund can be:

• Financial donations are being gratefully accepted to the American Red Cross International Response Fund which provides immediate relief and long-term support through supplies and technical assistance.
• Mail to PO Box 37243 Washington DC 20013
• Or by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS
• Or on-line at www.redcross.org
• Or text the word Haiti to 90999 to send a $10 donation. The $10 will show up on your phone bill.
• You may specifically designate ‘Haiti’ in your donations to ensure that your donation will go directly to fund that disaster.
• If you wish to donate to the Greater Cleveland Red Cross to support local families affected by disaster, you should designate “American Red Cross, Greater Cleveland Chapter (at this time the local chapter is not accepting text donations).
• If you wish to make a donation at the Greater Cleveland Red Cross during non-business hours (evenings or weekends) there will be a security guard available to take your donation.
